Kennedy Space Centre

View from my room in Savannah, town square

Supermarket where we bought lunch in Georgia

Small part of skyline in downtown Atlanta

Gloriasoame in Atlanta, very gracious

The Swan house gatehouse at the Atlanta History Center
Orlando 2.2 mill pop. Finally got out of there & one place assuredly not on the return visit list it is.

About an hour drive to Kennedy Space Centre, bus trip around the site with all the launching craft pointed out (along with alligators & bald eagle nests - huge, like a treehouse)
Imax film about the whole thing & a look at the launching mission control centre for the Apollo mission. After the bus trip, back to the visitor centre where we were meant to be able to have a simulated launch experience, but by the time we found it, & discovered it was a 30 minute ride, had to abandon it as had to be back at the bus, bit pee'd off really as not enough time to experience all the place has to offer in the "schedule" due to the "schedule"

Another 3.5 hours drive to Savannah Georgia, the home of southern hospitality. Formerly the state capital, pop 180,000 odd & very gracious city, early 1800s buildings. We stayed in the Ellis Inn which was an old historic building & great character & right in the centre of the town. Arrived at 7pm & had to regroup at 7.30pm for dinner, so not much time to wash the dirt of the highway. Dinner at the restaurant of Paula Deen, who is an institution here in the states, many cookbooks, tv shows etc. Famous for southern comfort food & lots of it. Of course you entered the restaurant through the gift shop with all the Paula Deen merchandise. We had the $25 buffet, all you can eat, which is not as much as it once was. Lots of blackeyed peas okra, yam which had been deep fried in maple syrup by the taste, it was soooo sweet. In fact most was either generously salted or sweetened & I am talking about the veg here. I tried some southern fried chicken, average, a pulled pork casserole, v nice, all the veg, full as a gook. Then had to face up to desert, a choice of banana pudding (with real bananas, the waiter informed us proudly) a peach cobbler or Ooey gooey which was described as the child of a chocolate brownie & a donut. I chose the banana pudding which to me tasted like vanilla instant pudding (with banana) - disgusting. I gave that to Teala the guide & she was determined that I try another one, despite my protestations, I ended up with peach cobbler famous dish for this part of the world, but just too sweet, Peter (tour leader) finished that one off.

After tea went for stroll around the town centre & square, finished off evening with drink in bar. Most we have seen here are like sports bars, 4 screens (with no sound thankfully) & then
home to bed, after fiddling with blog.

One of those big movers which take the shuttle to launch, there is special track which looks like the arrester beds for it to travel on due to weight.

Hot boiled peanuts, we partook at a wayside booth, boiled in the skin, v salty though

Didn't get to partake of this, Moonshine to buy in the petrol stop, 2 varieties. Carolina Clear & Apple Pie

Small selection of daiquiries at Wet Willies

Lovely old hotel in Savaanah where we stayed
