Just a word on our travelling companions, the majority have not made a stop without making a purchase (ie hat, tshirt, food, drinks, knickknacks (& in the stops I include petrol stops at gas stations - even these usually have quite an extensive range of goods, even a selection of trashy earrings. Really they put my friend mate M to shame, she will have to pick up her game if she is to remain the shopping queen!
Onward to Toronto where we were staying in a central hotel, the Clarion, where Ernest Hemingway lived with his wife for 2 years while he was working at a Toronto newspaper. I did not get to see his suite as it was occupied, or so the desk chap said. Lots of complaints as there was only one little old-fashioned lift, you know the type with an opening door & then a sliding grill, only held 2 people & 2 cases at a time! Even using the lift there was stairs also. Funnily enough the less able bodied were put on the 4th floor. I didn't mind the hotel , but I like a bit of character
Issue was probably compounded because we did not go straight to hotel, we had hit traffic (& lots of it) so went to CN Tower as soon as we hit town, more traffic as a big ball game in the same spot as CN tower & traffic horrendous. Girls (guides) phones did not work in Canada, so they lost communcation & one went one way & one the other. Anyway, did the tower with great views, the CN tower was the world's tallest tower for 30 odd years until the burj in 2010. I stood close to (not on) the glass floor of the not sure what floor, but v v high, quite disconcerting. Off to tea at the place called Earls, best meal I have had so far, cajun sirloin with accompanying vino, but place pretty noisy.
